Cleaning For Severe Silo Blockages and Flow Issues
IA Bulk Materials is trained and equipped to handle silo buildup, flow issues, and blockages of any volume and severity in any industry. We use over 14 proprietary tools and methodologies to tackle any project. In storage silos and tanks, bulk material that stands too long can gradually harden and get stuck inside the structure. This results in a loss of valuable company assets.
Our team works with any facility regardless of industry. We have experience working with grain, cement, lime, coal, salt, clay, fly ash, food processing, glass, ethanol, pulp & paper, power generation, refineries and many others.
No matter the material or structure, IA Bulk can help with blocked bulk material in an efficient and timely manner.
Check out this short video to see the different kinds of flow issues your facility may be facing. On the right, we see how the material is supposed to flow when there are consistent silo cleanings and maintenance.
At IA Bulk Materials, we are able to clear all of these build up problems with a vast range of tooling and methods. We cut our teeth on the toughest clean out projects across the country, so you can trust we will get it done.

Silo Cleaning Applications
To solve flow issues, we utilize several methods to get you back up and running as usual. IA Bulk mobilizes on-site to visually assess the structure and quantify the location and type of flow or blockage issues. We then determine the best material and application for removal.
Below are a few approaches we utilize:
Cardox Blasting
Holes are drilled through the silo’s wall to place the Cardox tubes. The Cardox system loosens and breaks up the compacted material. Check out our Cardox Page for more information
Industrial Shotguns
Commonly used in rotary kiln structures, this method uses industrial-grade shotgun shells to break up compacted material
Rope Access Methods
Our team utilizes rope access methods in severe case scenarios when it is safe and necessary.
Bin Whip
This popular silo cleaning solution lowers a bin whip down into the vessel, silo, or bin that holds dry bulk material from the top opening. The bin whip is powered by compressed air, or hydraulics, allowing various whips and cutting-edge motions to knock off stuck or built-up material throughout the entire structure. Check out our bin whip page for more information.
Not Just A Bin Whip, One Tool Crew
Bin Whipping has been a proven effective method on many different projects and jobs. However, this is just the tip of the iceberg for IA Bulk Materials. With our skills and tools, we are more than just a bin-whip company. We are specialists in this tool, however, that is not where we stop.
We have been able to perfect the craft in all of the applications and tools listed above, but where we differ is that is not where we stop. Our experience is our leverage to carry us beyond these main resources.
Our team can utilize a vast majority of tooling and methodologies to clear your blockage.
Fire / Smolder Clean Out
Not only do we service the most severe and hardened silo clean outs, we also are providers in fire emergency response, inert gas purging, and commodity removal of the burnt or on fire material. We serve all silo, bin or vessel fires. Go to our Emergency Response Page if you are in need, have questions, or just want to keep the information handy when you need us. Our phones ring 24/7, 365 days a year.
Customized Silo Cleaning Plans
Depending on what issue your facility is experiencing, you may need a mix of methods to clean out the structure adequately. Funneling, ratholing, plugging, bridging, caking, wall buildup, and scaling are all issues that can affect storage silos. Our engineers will evaluate your facilities’ issues and create a customized clean-out plan tailored to your specific structure and material needs.
