The Benefits of a Nitrogen Membrane Unit
What is a Nitrogen Membrane Unit?
Nitrogen Membrane Units use the ambient atmosphere to extract 96-99% pure nitrogen while separating any other gasses. The system uses high pressure air compressors to force large quantities of air CFMs through semi-permeable membranes that separate the nitrogen while blowing off any other gasses. These systems are cost effective and highly efficient in comparison to Liquid Exchanging Units because they do not require constant unreliable deliveries of nitrogen tankers and utilizing the unlimited supply of air and H2O from our atmosphere.
Benefits
- Efficiency: Quick mobilization and cost effectiveness allows for your structure to be up and running quicker.
- Monitoring: Advanced air monitors and temperature gauges ensure swift action against atmospheric changes.
- On-Site Production: The nitrogen membrane generator produces nitrogen on-site, aiding in controlling Lower Explosive Levels (LELs).
Nitrogen Membrane Units in Action
IA Bulk Materials had the opportunity to utilize a Nitrogen Membrane Unit on a Grain Silo in the Northeast recently. The silo was on fire and needed nitrogen to mitigate the fire. Using a nitrogen membrane unit in this scenario was crucial for several reasons.
Nitrogen is an inert gas, which means it does not support combustion. Introducing nitrogen into the silo displaces the oxygen that fuels the fire, effectively starving the flames of needed fuel. This makes nitrogen an ideal agent for suppressing fires in confined spaces like silos, where it can be difficult to apply traditional firefighting methods.
Nitrogen allows for our team to gain control over the fire much quicker than alternative solutions. If we had used a different solution for the silo at hand, there would be a greater potential for loss of material, excessive structure damage, explosion, and more.
